The Scheme:
The 'scrappage' scheme has been extended, with a further £100 million in government funding. Meaning that the scheme, due to run untill February 2010, will now cover up to 400,000 vehicles. The rules of the extended scheme remain unchanged, except for the date of first registration in the UK.( see below)

In exchange for scrapping your old vehicle and buying a new one the Government and Ford will contribute a total of £2,000 towards the purchase of a new vehicle
- The scheme will be available to the first 400,000 eligible claimants or until 28 February 2010, whichever is sooner
- Further promotions are available on selected Ford models in conjunction with the £2,000 Ford/Government funding
- We will take care of everything for you, including claiming the incentive on your behalf and arranging scrapping of the vehicle
The vehicle you are trading in must:
- Be a car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kilograms (kg)
- Be a car first registered in the UK on or before 29 February 2000 (V registration), or a van first registered in the UK on or before 28 February 2002. Meaning vans over 8 years old are now included (Y registration or new style 51 plate)
- Have a current tax disc and current MOT, OR has a current tax disc and current Hackney Carriage License, OR has an MOT certificate which expired no earlier than 14 days before the date of the contract between the Purchaser and the Dealer for the acquisition of title to the vehicle by the Purchaser.
- Have been registered to you continuously for 12 calendar months before the order date of the new vehicle
- Have a UK address on the registration certificate (V5C) in the same name as the new vehicle
- Not be a class A or B insurance write off.
- If Insurance write off class C then it will need to be tested and get a VIC
- Not be subject to any outstanding finance contract where the keeper does not have legal title to the vehicle
- Not be a stolen vehicle
The new vehicle you want to buy must be:
- A car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kg
- First registered in the UK on or after 18 May 2009
- Registered to the same keeper at the same address as the registered keeper of the vehicle to be scrapped.
- Must be registered no more than 4 months after the contract date.
- Declared new at first registration in the UK with no former keepers
